My story is about my grandfather or My Papou in Greek

My Papou had dreamt about being a professional fighter for years since he was a young boy, My Papou was a brown-haired boy who was very tanned he got into a lot of trouble at school for fighting and because of these fights he realised he could handle himself that is why he wanted to fight. My Papou had to walk himself about three miles to get to practice the trip to his fighting classes were dangerous he had to walk in the darkness rain and he had to walk side by side to the road, in the winter it got darker quicker and it was colder so he ran and when he arrived he he would be all sweaty and tired but he would still put in 110%

His parents didn’t believe that he can make a career out of fighting, My Papou had no clue if he wanted to do if he wanted to fight with his hands, feet or both. he went everyday after school, every time he would try something new, he went to all of them and wanted to do Judo before even trying Karate so the next day after school he got ready and went on his walk and when he arrived he tried Karate and he was a natural born talent at it but he was confused because no one in the family were fighters so he ran home to tell the good news but they didn’t really care he went on and on about it at dinner

they didn’t pay attention of course he realised, the only person paying attention  was his younger brother Andy. Andy wasn’t really into all that fighting stuff he only cared about meeting girls but he listened because he looked up to his older brother.

But times got tough just as his father started to realise he was a great fighter with both his hands and feet he got a call to go to work his duty called and he had to leave for the army this upset my Papou to the extent were he wouldn’t do his homework he would get home and run to training and he work harder than ever so that his father would believe that he could become professional by the time he came home.

My Papou’s coach told him if he was to keep up the work and effort he was putting in, he may get called up by the Britains under 15’s national team for Karate but bit by bit his concentration and levels in school were going down so when he had got home from school he came home to see his mother at the door with his Karate Uniform in one hand and she said Your not going until your levels go up My Papou was distraught she ran up the stairs and shouted tha to metanióseis, ímoun tóso kontá Before slaming his bedroom door, he started crying a river. My Papou was so angry he started punching holes in walls trying to calm down but realised he is just ruining his house so he went outside and started training on his pads He was out there for 3 hours just punching and kicking but at lead he knew he still wasn’t going to do his homework. A 3 months went by my Papou still wasn’t doing his homework and was still training everyday on his pads nothing could stop him from doing that and he hadn’t spoken to his mum since but then the house phone rang he took his pads of and went to pick up the phone Hello he said, And the reply was Oh thank god where have you been? he realised it was his coach and told him that his mother had stopped him from going due to his performance at school the coach said let me talk to her My Papou shouted,

She came down the stairs and took the phone and put it to her ear the phone said Hello miss Theophanous I am George’s coach I was calling to see if George was okay and to tell him that he is going to be te key fighter in the British Under 17’s Karate team

My Papou’s mother went silent and my papou ran up stairs grabbed his Karate Uniform and showed it to his mother and she said

Go

My Papou ran as fast as he could and trained for 6 hours and came gome at 12:30am even though he had school the next day

Three months later my Papou was making his professional debut for the Brtish Under 17’s Karate team while also being a blackbelt. My Papou faced a lot  of great fighters but one by one took them down, in the final my Papou bowed down to start the fight and the opponent tried to cheat by kicking him in the face, my Papou luckily moved his head back and he missed my Papou was angry so when the fight began my Papou kicked him in the face and when down to take him down but the opponent kicked back at my Papou and he lost 3 teeth but never the less he carried on and won the fight.

My Papou fought all the way up to the age of 43 and never lossed a fight but decided to retire wining everything he possible could. My papou had for children, two boys and two girls. Now my papou is 75 and is living in Cyprus travelling all around the world teaching Karate and also being a part time jeweller.

LO: How can we tell a story is a Junot Díaz story?

I think some of the themes that Junot Díaz want to discuss are:

•His background

•Loyalty

•Brotherhood

•Trust

•Life as a Latino

We know it’s Junot Díaz because he puts more emphasis into his writing and always make his story interesting to read, whereas the other author started his story with an old man that was fishing which isn’t very fun

In the play Shylock and Antonio are on trial at a Christian court where Shylock is trying to take a pound of Antonio’s flesh but little did he know  portia dresses up as a male doctor to make sure the procedure goes well, at the same time she was trying to talk him out of doing what he was doing, she tricked him into not being able to cut a piece of Antonios flesh

In this scene we get the image that the judge doesn’t like Shylock and he is biased. The Judge is against Shylock because he is a Jewish man whereas the judge is a Christian. The judge claims Shylock to be inhuman, Uncapable of pity, a stony adversary, and void and empty of any dram of mercy

“How is she?”

“Yeah she’s alright”

“What does that mean?”

“She needs to get help”

“You can tell me anything”

“… Ahh she is sick”

“What is it!”

The difference about how Junot Díaz writes compared to other authors is that he doesn’t use speech marks.

Junot Díaz would write he or she said or the persons name and had said after it to make it less complicated to read, Junot Díaz also only uses said instead of he exclaimed or she expressed to make it easier for the reader.

They young boy was walking home at night on his phone and bumped in to a shady figure, the tall man took his hood off and looked at the boy for 2 seconds and hugged him

Who are you?, the young boy said

I guess you don’t remember me?

clearly the boy said

The boy paused for a second

oh my god, I’m so sorry it’s you the boy said

Yeah she is alright

What does that mean?, you can tell me anything

She needs to get help

Why what happened?

The boy huffed

Something about My Identity is sports my older brother Louie is a Professional Footballer, My Mum could have been a Professional Swimmer I Play Football and my two little sisters Betsy and Lola Run. We are a very sporty family and we like to try to participate in as many sports as possible

There is a newspaper article about the play written by a Jew called john Freedman and he is writing to say why he thinks the   play is Anti-Semetic or not he writes about how the play is stereotypical towards Jews saying they only care about money and they can only have one job which is money lending but they still get mocked for it and how shylock is made to look like the fool of the play.

shylock is made to fell like a monster for wanting a pound of Antonio’s flesh but the Christians are allowed to  keep slaves and treat them like donkeys, dogs and mules a quote for the play is “You have among you many a purchased slave,
Which—like your asses and your dogs and mules”

The play The Merchant Of Venice is accused of being Anti-Semetic, Anti-Semetic means to be racist towards Jews it is accused because of the stereotypes towards Jews like Jews only care about money. The play is made out to be a tragedy but it is acutually made to be a comedy the play is made to make the audience laugh at shylock
